How did all start?

  • 2007

    It all started in 2007: Markus Schmidlin and Cedric Stingelin were so frustrated with all the manual, cumbersome work with numerous local and global Excel sheets that they decided to develop a software that would automate the entire pricing and margin monitoring process within a multinational chemical group in Switzerland. This took about 7 years and involved many experts from tax, transfer pricing, controlling, accounting, supply chain, IT, etc. Thus, the so-called “Transfer Pricing Management Tool” was developed by experts who wanted a solution that would solve the real day-to-day challenges within a complicated business.

  • 2014

    In order to be able to offer the benefits of this solution also to other groups and operational TP experts, Optravis was founded in Basel in 2014 by Markus Schmidlin and Cedric Stingelin.

    The name OPTRAVIS stands for OPerational TRAnsfer pricing and VISualization.

    The goal of Optravis was to further enhance and market the Transfer Pricing Management Tool.

    From the beginning, Optravis took advantage of the public cloud infrastructure and the Software as a Service model. Innovative technology combined with in-depth practical knowledge of processes, SAP R/3, S/4 HANA and other ERP systems, controlling and transfer pricing helped Optravis to continuously improve the product, win new customers and become the leading provider of operational transfer pricing solutions.

  • 2021

    Then, in 2021, the family-owned and globally active msg group, one of the largest SAP implementation partners, acquired Optravis.

    This acquisition supports the strategy of digitally transforming the CFO’s office, extending the market-leading operational transfer pricing capability, broadening the portfolio with additional best-in-class applications, and becoming the provider of an open and fully integrated Transfer Pricing Platform.

  • 2022

    In 2022, we opened our first office in Germany (Ismaning/Munich).

  • 2023

    In 2023, we completed the development of our new Service Charge Tool. The first customers are using it.
