TP Handbook from Hanken/ Kleinhietpaß/ Lagarden (4th edition) published (23/05)

May 22, 2023

Our partner colleague Jörg Hanken is proud to announce that the 4th edition of the book “Transfer Pricing – a practical guide for controlling and tax experts” is available now!

He wrote the first edition in 2014 with Guido Kleinhietpaß Controller Akademie because he noticed at the time that there was only either purely tax or purely controlling literature on the topic of transfer pricing. However, the practitioner knows that transfer pricing in a company can only be solved when the departments work together.

That’s why Joerg wanted to close this gap and write a handbook that explains to controllers/ accountants from a practitioner’s point of view why tax-based transfer pricing regulations are necessary and how to set up transfer pricing models in a tax-compliant manner. And he wanted to show tax experts the steering and measurement logics that controllers use to calculate transfer prices. The aim is to work out the differences and similarities and to develop solutions for a harmonised transfer pricing model so that both teams achieve their goals.

Especially in transactions between an entrepreneur manufacturer and a routine distribution company, there are often conflicting goals from the tax and controlling perspectives. In the book we have tried to present six implementable models so that the reader can decide which model best suits the business model, the management philosophy and the maturity level of the company.

As one of the design principles of the book, the 18 authors have deliberately refrained from formulating academic or scientific contributions. The book is written by practitioners for practitioners and has found its readership. Nevertheless, we have incorporated all relevant tax changes since 2020 (3rd edition) until December 2022, such as the German Transfer Pricing Administrative Principles 2020, 2021 and 2022, ATAD, DAC 7, OECD Guidelines 2022, OECD Pillar 1 and 2, EU public CbCR and the Hamamatsu case (no customs impact on year-end adjustments). The book also contains a chapter about TP automation solutions.

Finally, Joerg would like to thank the co-editors and authors Martin Lagarden (Global Head of Transfer Pricing at Henkel) and Guido Kleinhietpaß Controller Akademie (trainer and partner at Controller Academy), and the very experienced co-authors Jochen Meyer-BurowRon DorwardStefan FritschAndré JaekelPia Marie KönigNicole LooksDaniel RetzerDr. Isabel RuhmerDaniel SchwerdtRebecca SimoneitJoachim SohnDaniela StaegerCedric StingelinDr. Alexander TotzekDr. Thorsten Zumwinkel and Ms. Salpietro from Haufe Group very much for the valuable contributions and the great cooperation !
